Watto's Junk Shop.com - your views and ideas?

Hi all
With the new site opening this week - I would be interested in your feedback as to what you would like to see appear on the site. Let me know what features you would like, or any other views on what you want the site to be.

It should an exciting place for all us collectors to hang out and chat.

I have a thought. Maybe a web page with some photos of our members and their collections? A page with random photos sort of like a bulletin board of pics so others can see what fun loving Star Wars fans we all are. It's just a thought.

Like the idea - could go in the "features" area - members collections. I will start on a page template, ready to post up if others would like to see this too. I'm all for it. Thanks for the input.

I don't know if we have covered this or not, but do we have a limit on storage space here?

With all the pics for trades and other items such as the great idea of collection pics, I just don't want to run out of room. Maybe you have already told me about this, but if so I'm sorry it has slipped my mind.

Looks good thus far and of course early days means the fine tuning is to come. Good that this site is not dependant on the SW Yahoo site (in case it ever goes under)

You never know with Yahoo. Aren't they still up in the air for a buyout?

I can't believe that WOSW has never made it out of the BETA phase. Last word I got from Yahoo is they no longer support the site unless someone reports content or members.

Too bad, too, becasue the site has a LOT of potential. If there were some way for us to take it over and mod the site or whatever, we could bring glory back to the Empire! LOL

Anyway, you are correct. These are indeed the early days. We will be adding more and fine tuning as we go along, and hopefully incorporate some other features as well.

Any suggestions are more then welcome, just as J1m has said. Let us know what you would like to see and we can try to work it in!

Is there some where here that we can create a database for addresses, like at the old Watto's?

Databases are a bit of a sticking point when it comes to the coding, hence a forum that is an 'add on' to the site. I also personally feel a little uneasy about publishing my address on the web, for all to see. We could always trade addresses via the chat option or through private email. What do others think?

I figured that there would be a memebrs only area to post addresses in. That way, the world wouldn't know where we live.
But, PM's are good and I have most every ones mailing addresses from pervious trades.

I have spent the week udating the graphics and animation on the site. I plan to have a couple of reviews and features pages together as well.

Can you let me know what you think. I am also putting our site details on Twitter to attract more hits.

The improvements look great, Jim! We are definitely on the right track.

The new page. It's bright, white, and clean! I love it. It reminds me of Bespin...the clean part, not the cluttered dirty ugnaught filled ugly side. Wait so maybe more like Kamino? Yes...clean and bright, like Kamino!

How often do you post reviews?

I am trying to post new features or reviews at least once a week. I am limited by the fact that UK shops are so far behind in terms of waves, but I have gratefully recieved photos from members here of new releases.

If you want to become a reviewer for the site. Simply send me the review via email and attatch a few photos and I will create the page. This would speed up the process consideraby.

I have spent the past two weeks on the graphics update. So a little behind at the moment.

Hey everyone, If you have already checked out the other features on the site, such as the "Features" page or the "Reviews" page, make sure you check them out again. J1m and I have been working hard to update reviews and add to current features.

If anyone would like to submit a review or has a great idea for a feature, let J1m or myself know.

There will be more to come, and I know that J1m is working on the site every chance he can get to bring new pages and stuff to keep everyone comming back!

As DJ says - I am trying to get new stuff on - but it is time consuming - you could do the site as a full time job!

New items to look out for is a Vintage Review page and some more reviews from the vintage line.

I will hopefully have these up within the week.

If everyone can just spread the word on the site that would be great - we look to have 0ver 1000 hits in the next few weeks - which is a very positive start!

Hi all

I have produced a new look banner for the site - I plan to trial it only on the homepage from tomorrow (4th Nov) for 24hrs. Please can you let me know your views before I make any sitewide changes. I plan to produce this logo/banner for all correspondance with companies and potential advertisers if you like it.

Similarly, if it doesn't work , let me know here and we can rethink.

Thanks for the positive feedback here and via email. I think everyone has been positive - so as of tomorrow - all pages will feature the new banner.

I will be forwarding themed adverts for those wishing to take on the role of promotion of this site. Let me know if you are interested.

Most of these ideas aren't new and I don't want people just posting to earn rank but a ranking system for post amount frequency would be good to easily see who is most active similar to icon on star wars action news forum. Also positive trade ranking to earn points for each item traded and perhaps at end of the year these could be cashed in for either mystery prize or known donated prize! Perhaps even have a raffle auction where you trade one of your own items to enter auction. After deadline entry date do a random drawing for a high end collectible item. Just some ideas sent from my blackberry phone

I'll talk with J1m to see if this can be added in. I'm not 100% sure what the limitations are on this forum.

If we can not get a point system set up, maybe we can at the VERY least start a thread for the trade/sale point system.

Mater - I have set up a point system for the number of posts, plus a reputation feature. If you click the THANKS button at the top of posts it adds points to the reputation of the user. There are also - and + signs on the right of the post that should add or detract reputation.

I will need to keep an eye on this over the next few days to see if it works.

I have also added a new button to the frum toolbars at the top of the page that takes you back directly to Wattos.com homepage.

You will see I have also updated the banner here. I will work on tweaks over the next few days. Let me know how you get on with it.

As a start - click on THANKS for all those members who you have traded with successfullly per times you have traded. This will give active traders a positive start.

We will have to keep an eye on missuse of this by any members.

Seems that the reputation option only works on new posts - since I got it up and running. We need to start a new thread on successful trades. All members need to do is put up a post saying they have traded successfully and who it was with. We can then all add to the reputation of active members who post.
